Thackrah, Robert J.

Robert James was born in Sandridge 1878, son of James from Aberdeen and Ann from Lertrim, Ireland.
He married Maude Foster in 1898. Maude was also born in Sandridge in 1878 and died in Port Melbourne 1851. Records show that Robert died in Port Melbourne in 1940, a date confirmed by Emily Lock, although Sands and McDougall give his name as the householder right up to 1953.
Maude was a lovely lady Emily Lock remembers, and helped all the neighbours when there was any trouble. Robert was a waterside worker. (see Emily Lock interview

They had seven children all baptised at St Joseph's:
Ann born 3 October 1899 and baptised 12 November 1899
Eileen Maude born 20th July 1901 and baptised 25th August 1901. Maude married George Calder Gardener 16 October 1924
Mary Alice born 14th March 1904, baptised 3rd April 1904
James Alexander born 12 July 1906 and baptised 12 August 1906
Robert Arthur born 20th October 1908 baptised 22 November 1908
Maud Mary born 19th April 1911, baptised 21 May 1911
William John born 20th January 1915 and baptised 21st February 1915. William died in Heidelberg 1980.
