William was born in Emerald Hill 1886. He lived in Port Melbourne for over 50 years, from 1921. He was employed by the Port Council as a dustman. His cart was a wooden dray with wooden wheels. He was Jim Power's grandfather and Jim remembers being taken by his grandfather in the dray to the Todd Road tip, probably in 1948.
William was married in 1909 to Alice Isabel Green born in 1887. They had several children:
Alice born 25th August 1909, she was Jim's mother, who married James Patrick Power 21st March 1942
Alfred who died at the age of 8
Lil, born 6th November 1921, who still lives in Northcote
Alfred born 28th November 1919, who married Jean Downie who lived in 193 Ross Street
Jean Margaret born 31 July 1917
Both Alice and Lil were bookbinders and worked at Rials in Bay Street which was in the building which is now the picture framers and art shop. They also worked for Whitings which was on the site of the building later the newsagency and now a bike shop.

Wife of William Schofield. When her son-in-law, James Power, died she took over the care of her grandson, Jim Power, as his mother had to go to work to keep them. Later Alice Power remarried.
