    “J. R. Mackie is my brother. I have had letters from home stating that they had photos etc. taken from him, sent home by an Englishwoman. They had been given to her by a Tommy and they had a letter from the padre of his battalion. He is buried somewhere up near Longatt, Bullecourt. His cobber told me that he buried him and his grave is marked with rifle and a bit of a cross. H.J. Gay, 5332, H.Q., 21st Battn. told me” (John Mackie, 1 Div. HQ, Westham)
