Parents: Alfred and Jane COX, born Port Melbourne, educated Minyip SS, Gongernong College (location unknown). He enlisted as a 24-year-old plumber at Warracknabeal with his mother at Minyip as next of kin. Noted as being killed in bombing of the 3 Light Horse Field Ambulance hospital in Palestine by enemy aircraft; his detailed records suggest he was admitted “sick” on 2 May, two days before he was killed.

“I actually knew casualty well. He was killed at Der-al-Belah, Palestine on the 4th May, 1917 under the following circumstances. Casualty was in hospital in which he was an inmate when a piece of aero-torpedo cut him across the shoulders, almost cutting his body in two. It struck him in the back. Casulaty was buried on the 5th May. A cross was put over his grave. I was in the hospital at the time”. (W. K. Mitchell, 1669, 6th Light Horse) Six others were killed and eight wounded in the attack on the tent hospital.
