    Served Boer War (1898-1902) as 1144, Private, 5th Victorian Mounted Rifles, shown as born 1879 a drover c/- PO Outtrim. Vic. next of kin in Bundaberg, Queensland. A brother John served as 1001 in the same unit and with similar details, born 1874, BUT not the John in existing WW1 archive.
