Father: William H Sutton, born Coburg, educated Nott Street SS. A 28-year-old carpenter, Sutton enlisted with his address as 49 Lyons Street, Port Melbourne, friend Mrs F Freebody at 7 Buckhurst Street, South Melbourne as next of kin, later adjusted to his father at 148 Stokes Street, Port Melbourne. Brother, 19713, Cyril Albion SUTTON enlisted from Stokes Street, three other brothers, one sister. Brother-in-law of 4721, Ernest Albert HARRIS, killed in action 3 May, 1918.

    SUTTON— Killed in action on the 17th July, Corporal J. H. Sutton (Bert), of Port Melbourne, the dearly beloved son of William and the late Kate, loving brother of William, Harry, Lola, Cyril (on active service) and Laurie.
    Dearly loved, sadly mourned.
    Inserted by his sorrowing father and stepmother, sister and brothers.
