Sapper, 2 Tunnelling Company, died from illness 26 February, 1919, aged 28, commemorated Brookwood Military Cemetery, Pirbright, Surrey, England.

Parents: James and Mary MARKWELL, born South Melbourne. Family then at 25 Draper Street, South Melbourne. A 26-year-old labourer, he enlisted Port Augusta, South Australia with his parents at 32 Evans Street, Port Melbourne. Died of influenza as 3 Australian Auxiliary Hospital whist awaiting repatriation to Australia.
