WALLAN EAST (FROM A CORRESPODENT).
“News has just been received of the death in France of Corporal, Harry Lewis, who is one of the big batch of Wallan boys who joined the colors about 12 months ago. For several years, Harry was a playing member of the Wallan Football Club, and for a couple of years prior to enlisting he was one of the umpires engaged by the Midlands Football Association, and sportsmen generally learned of his death with deep regret.
The late Corporal Lewis leaves a young mother-less family, his wife died as a result of an accident at Wallan two years ago. Harry’s brother Jack is now at the front, and another brother, Jim, returned injured some months back. Their mother lives at Port Melbourne, and much sympathy from the people of the district is extended to her”.
